August It was a good news bad news situation for Pennsylvania casino revenue for
the month of August Revenue was up from the previous year by tqwenty percent but
that increase was largely caused by the addition of two new casinos Revenue
figures released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board indicated that in
August casinos won $186_9 million That figure was up from the $156_1 million
that the casinos won in August of 2009 That was the good news for the city The
bad news was that of the seven casinos that existed in August of 2008 five of
them experienced a revenue decline Chester Casino and Racetrack had a revenue
slip of 10_8 percent while Philadelphia Park Casino and Racetrack’s revenue
dropped four percent Pennsylvania will see similar figures over the next few
months because of the new casino in Pittsburgh said observer Harvey Frittle But
after they have a full year with the new casinos running the numbers will fall
more in line with the rest of the country Some areas in the country are seeing
their revenue drop in record numbers Atlantic City and Las Vegas have never had
revenue declines like they have experienced over the past year Las Vegas is
hoping their figures will improve with the addition of MGM Mirage’s CityCenter
project Rivers Casino had a decent first month of operation in Pittsburgh The
casino had revenue of $16_2 million The Meadows Racetrack and Casino also had a
good month with a 15_6 percent increase over the same month last year September
