Form In US This past week has carried much news about the future of online
gambling in the US Despite all the developments this week online poker may still
become the first regulated form of Internet gambling in the country This past
week the Treasury Department decided to grant a delay in the implementation of
the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act Several lawmakers had written a
letter suggesting the delay of these rules Also this past week Representative
Barney Frank announced that lawmakers will begin discussing his proposed
legislation that would overturn the UIGEA on Tuesday After hearing the news of
the UIGEA delay Frank issued a statement saying that he would continue to work
hard to overturn the ill-advised law That legislation however may take months to
complete Another piece of legislation has been proposed by New Jersey lawmaker
Robert Menendez that would regulate online poker Over the past couple of years
Internet poker has become one of the most popular forms of entertainment for
people within the US These residents are not protected against any ills that
could occur by playing at unregulated online casinos The online gambling issue
is a hot one throughout the world Several countries have recently changed their
online gambling laws with the US looking like it will be one of the next
countries to do so The question now for online players in the US becomes when
and not if Poker seems to have the inside track to be the first game regulated
and that should make millions of online card players in the US happy November 29
